I like the different dessert analogy. I think it kind of proves we are all the same in fundamental ways but what gives us depth are our different flavors. That's much harder to track b/c we all have different lived experiences. I think Enneagram is a bit challenging for me largely b/c the descriptions vary across different authors. I also think we naturally integrate all of these different strategies and defense mechanisms over time so we can be more than one? I actually find myself preferring MBTI, but strictly when it's rescued from the mainstream behavioral nonsense. & focuses on perception + cognition which is true to the original theory, and shows how we adapt and shift as we grow, but the underlying mechanics of our cognitive axis do not change.

Anywho, your piece is a beautiful reminder that whether we map it through the lens of cognitive architecture or the deep motivational priors of the soul, we have to stop assuming everyone else is just a mirror of us. Nice thought provoking essay
